Last week, I did alot of networking amongst non techie people who had no clue what is a Robert Scoble, Mitch Joel or podcasting. Yikes! So, I quickly put together a 3 minute video tutorial to explain what podcasting is using the examples of Peanuts, Lost, Oprah and another talk show diva. Click here to view the video.
Over at my new home, LeesaBarnes.com, I’m focused on helping service professionals learn how to avoid cold calling and generate leads using a podcast and other online media tools.
This probably doesn’t sound any different from Podonomics, however over on my new blog, I’m focusing less on the technique and more on the strategy.
A quick note to let you know that I’m moving all my posts over to Leesa Barnes dot com. If you’re reading this through your email or other feed reader, please update your feeds with the new one - http://feeds.feedburner.com/leesabarnes.
The cord will be cut something in the next 2 weeks, so get a move on and join me over at my new home.
So, Chris Penn did a mother of all pingbacks a month ago. Let’s see if I can top his list. Here’s the list of podcasters profiled in Podcasting for Profit in order of appearance, otherwise known as thepodcasting for profit rock stars.
Note - Some podcasters were mentioned in multiple chapters, but I just didn’t have the heart to keep typing out there names over and over. So you’ll just have to get the book to find out where else I mentioned the following rock stars.
In January 2007, I was impregnated with a book deal. From that point on, I nurtured this little bundle of joy so it could take on a life of its own. I was elated with the knowledge that something big was going to grow. At every turn, I saw evidence of its growth - a chapter here, a paragraph there.
I started to have cravings for Kit Kat at odd hours of the day. I gorged on some of the most unhealthiest foods, everything from French fries to chocolate dip donuts from Tim Hortons to McDonalds. I ate as much as I could to feed what was growing on my computer screen.
There were many all nighters. Some nights, I couldn’t sleep because I was restless. The bulge of ideas kept getting in the way. I had to relieve myself by writing a chapter at 3am just to get any sleep.
A year ago, one of my clients started podcasting. I recommended a small sample of podcast directories to submit to and one of them was Yahoo Podcasts. I just loved its simple, yet pretty design and was pleased that another major player was stepping into the podcasting limelight.
Yet, after a year, I have now stopped recommending Yahoo Podcasts. Why? It’s been neglected by Yahoo itself. Some feeds haven’t been updated in its directory in months, even though the podcaster has been producing new episodes every week.
Tonight, Wednesday August 22, I’m hosting a fr’ee live call at 8pm ET. I’m going to interview a creativity coach who knows she needs to use the Internet to finds clients, but doesn’t know where to start. I’m going to coach her through the process and I invite you to listen in.
This call is in a series of weekly calls giving you a sneak peak at my Online Media Success Workshop taking place November 2-3, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario.
Get this. I’ve been podcasting since late 2005. I even have a book coming out on podcasting. Despite having a podcasting expert in her own home, my mother took an interest in podcasting only this past week. Here’s how the conversation went.
“Leesa, I want an iPod.”
“Why?”
“Because Larry King said I can get his podcast that way.”
“Easy. I’ll get you set up and show you what to do.”
“Oh good. How much does the iPod cost?”
“As little as $100 to as much as $400. You know, you can get Larry King’s podcast right on your computer. You know that, right?”
“Yes, but I want an iPod.”
Podcasting has become relevant to my mom, not because her daughter does this thing for a living, but because Larry King tells her so every night. Go figure.
Last week, I took a much deserved 5-day holiday. On Wednesday morning, I headed north of Toronto to spend 2-days at a friend’s cottage in the Kawarthas. Then on Friday morning, I went to the shores of Lake Erie to bask in the warm sunshine. I went to church on Saturday, a BBQ on Sunday, then spent more time in the sun on holiday Monday at Harbourfront taking in the sights and sounds of Caribana inspired gospel music.
Just glorious! An amazing way to unwind and relax. No computers, no Internet, nothing technical. Just sun and fun for 5-days. I learned many things about the world around me while away from the computer and I want to share them with you.
Here’s some quick tips on how to grow your podcasting audience. I look at offline, online and community building tools as excellent ways to promote your podcast. Listening time is 10-minutes.
